Bizarre move

Sir, — This is with reference to the report that the VHP leader, Praveen Togadia, will participate in the gurupooja of Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar on October 30 in Ramanathapuram, Tamil Nadu.

There seems to be an ulterior political motive behind the move — to woo the Thevars who constitute a major vote-bank.

Mr. Togadia's proposed trishul diksha will only aggravate communal tensions in the southern districts of the State that are already ravaged by casteism.
