Letters to the Editor
Sir, The confidence building measures announced by the Government for normalising ties with Pakistan are to be welcomed, considering that a lot of time has been wasted in rhetoric. But Pakistan continues to harp on Kashmir. It should not think that India's move is a sign of weakness or made at the behest of the U.S. and the West.
R. Muralikumar,
Sir, Despite the setbacks of the past, the Government has not given up hopes for peaceful co-existence. Both countries have already lost precious time and countless lives. The fresh package is bound to generate goodwill among the people, irrespective of official Pakistan's response. Ultimately, our only hope lies in the people pushing for an inter-dependent and prosperous neighbourhood.
Kanwar Pal Singh Chauhan,
Sir, At a time when the U.S., France, Russia and China have welcomed the peace proposals, Pakistan is reluctant to seize the olive branch. Given its attitude, there is no room for any optimism.
J. Akshobhya,
Sir, The proposals will not produce any tangible results as long as Pakistan does not stop cross-border terrorism and infiltration into Jammu and Kashmir. Earlier peace initiatives too ended in failure for this reason.
K.V. Raman,
