Long overdue

Sir, — Your editorial "Long overdue" ( Nov. 1 ) is commendable. Now it is the duty of the Ministry of Environment to ensure that the draft notification is enforced properly. This should not become a source of income for unscrupulous elements.

N. Narayanan,
Danbury, U.S.

Sir, — Besides the hazard caused to the rivers and water bodies, the eternally overgrowing megaplexes in cities violate the very basic rules of the ecosystem. It is important to move towards a geographic spread of the city from a holistic environment standpoint. It calls for proactive action from the government and urban bodies.

R. Sundara Srinivasan,
Denver, Colorado
