Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The inauguration was carried out at the Open Forum on environmental issues organised by the WWF on the first Friday of each month. A WWF pressnote said the water conservation initiatives would envisage an array of projects which the children can implement in their schools or homes. These projects would be something very simple, such as, ensuring that there is no overuse or misuse of water. A core team, of representatives from various schools that attended today's meeting, will make the final selection of the projects to be implemented as part of this scheme. The projects will be such that they reflect the requirements of individual schools. The projects would also seek to demonstrate that water conservation can be done through small, school-level projects too. A large number of school children participated in today's open forum The deputy director of the Forestry Information Bureau, K. G. Mohanan Pillai, made a presentation on the relation between biodiversity and water resources. The slides shown as part of the presentation stressed the need to conserve water resources. Many school children who participated in the ensuing interactive discussion raised the point that it was high time school children took serious initiatives to further the movement for water conservation, the pressnote said.
