People will give their verdict: Vasan

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE Nov.12. A widespread opinion among people is that governance in the State is not good and "they will give their verdict at the appropriate time", G. K. Vasan, all-India general secretary, Congress, said today.

Referring to the jail sentence pronounced by the Assembly to the five members of the The Hindu and the editor, Murasoli, and the DMK MLA, Parithi Illamvazhuthi, Mr. Vasan, who was here to participate in an Opposition-sponsored human chain to protest against the sentence, told presspersons that even the very few who thought there was good governance in the State reversed their opinion.

The police search in houses of those sentenced was condemnable. "If this is what senior journalists have to face, imagine the plight of others," he said.

Members of the Congress, the DMK, the CPI, the CPI (M), and the MDMK formed a human chain on the Dr. Nanjappa Road, the Cross Cut Road and the Mettupalayam Road.

The former DMK Minister, Pongalur N. Palanisamy; the Coimbatore East and Valparai MLAs, V.K. Lakshmanan and Kovai Thangam, participated.
