The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Delhi, Arun Goyal, said these parties had applied for freezing of their respective State symbols for the Assembly elections here within the prescribed limit of three days of issuing of poll notification. "Applications of all other parties have been rejected,'' he added. Prominent among these parties are the Janata Dal (Secular), Indian National Lok Dal, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist-Liberation), Janata Dal (United), All India Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Janata Party (Rashtriya), Rashtriya Lok Dal, Republican Party of India, Janata Party, All India Forward Bloc and Samta Party. Mr. Goyal said the symbols of these State parties would be allocated to their nominees only in those constituencies for which specific request has been made. As per an order issued in this regard by the CEO on November 14, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) headed by the former Bihar Chief Minister, Laloo Prasad Yadav, has been allotted the "hurricane lamp'' in 31 seats. The RJD is a State party in Bihar and Jharkhand. The All India Trinamool Congress from West Bengal headed by the Union Minister, Mamta Banerjee, has been allotted its "flower and grass'' symbol for 27 seats, while the Haryana's Indian National Lok Dal has been given the "spectacles'' symbol for 15 seats. Unlike the 2002 municipal polls, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) - a State party of Jharkhand -- has not applied for allocation of its party symbol now. At the same time, the Communist Party of India (Marxist Leninist-Liberation), which is recognised as a State party in Assam - has been allotted its "red flag with three star'' symbol for eight seats. The Janata Dal (United), which is a State party in Bihar, Jharkhand, Karnataka and Nagaland, has been allotted the "arrow'' for all the 70 seats, Mr. Goyal said. The Republican Party of India has been given the "rising sun'' symbol for 35 seats and All India Forward Bloc "lion'' for 25 seats. The Janata Dal (Secular), which is a State party in Karnataka, has been allotted the symbol of "a lady farmer carrying paddy on her head'' for 41 seats. As per the Election Commission's order, the "hand pump'' symbol has been reserved for the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) for 15 seats. The RLD is headed by the former Union Minister, Ajit Singh. While the Samajwadi Party (Rashtriya) has been permitted to contest on 21 seats with its "tree'' symbol, the Samta Party has been allocated the "flaming torch'' for 52 seats.
