The President, Karnataka Small-scale Industries Association, C.R. Janardhana, told presspersons here today that despite hurdles the printers had discharged their responsibility. There were complaints that printers were responsible for the delay in the production of textbooks which were to be distributed free. But the lorry owners strike, delay in the supply of paper, CD-ROMs, and positives, and technical problems in changing the stipulated size of textbooks were responsible for the delay. The Minister of State for Primary and Secondary Education had promised the printers that the latter would not be penalised as the Government was aware of the situation. The delay in making payments had been causing hardship to the printers who had taken bank loans for executing the job. The printers would be forced to chart out the future course of action if the Government failed to clear the dues in a fortnight, he said.
