46 countries to participate in GITEX

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD Jan. 2. Delegates from 46 countries are likely to attend the second Asia IT Ministers' Summit - 2004, organised concurrently with the GITEX-Hyderabad, from January 12 to 14.

In a press release here, Abdulla T. Qassem, General Manager of the Dubai World Trade Centre, which is organising the GITEX, said the summit would provide visiting delegates and participating exhibitors an opportunity to stay abreast of emerging technology and R&D in the IT industry.

GITEX is an exhibition to showcase a range of IT related products and services. While the main exhibition will retain its focus on trade professionals, consumers wanting to purchase computer equipment and electronic gadgetry can do so at the GITEX Computer Shopper that has been added as a new component to the event this year.

Mr. Qassem said the summit would bring together IT Ministers from leading Asian countries in exploring ways to collaboratively develop IT. The summit would encourage trade as well as R&D activities in the field of IT and play a significant role towards development of industrial cooperation in the IT sector.

Randeep Sudan, Special Secretary to the Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, said it was decided to leverage the three events - GITEX Hyderabad, iTech conference and ICT Ministers meet - to design strategies for e-governance activities, apart from developing the IT industry in the State.

Asian countries would share their expertise in e-governance activities, sustaining growth and expansion, meeting human resource challenges and evolving strategies.

The countries which have confirmed their participation in the summit are Afghanistan, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Georgia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Japan, Jordan, Kazakhstan, South and North Koreas, Kuwait, Kyrgystan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tazakstan, Thailand, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Yemen.
