Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
Speaking at the District Level Education meeting here on Friday, Mr. Meena said despite best of talent and Government support teachers in Government schools were not able to produce the desired result. He called upon them to work towards improving their image among the public. He said an important component of their job was to maintain regular contact with parents of their students, which unfortunately they were not doing. The results in private schools were much better because parents were involved in keeping a check on their wards' progress. Mr. Meena pointed out that teachers had an important role to play in fulfilling the Government's dream of achieving 100 per cent literacy by 2005 and asked them to overcome the shortfalls by assessing the reasons for drop in quality of education in Government schools. He also asked them to suggest names of handicapped students for issue of tri-cycles or walking sticks and assured to sanction them all. A.N. Sudershan Rao, District Education Officer, Sudhakar Reddy, Assistant Project Director, DPEP, were among those who were present.
