Violinist dead
KOLKATA,
JAN. 31.
Renowned violinist and Padma Bhushan awardee, V.G. Jog, died here today after a prolonged illness.
He was 89. Jog is survived by wife, a son and two daughters.
According to family sources, Jog was suffering from respiratory problems for the past few years.
The end came at 3.45 a.m.
Hailing from Maharashtra, Jog trained under S.N. Ratanjankar, Pandit V. Shashtri and the legendary Allauddin Khan who was the founder of the Maihar Band.
Besides the Padma Bhushan, Jog was also the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi award, the West Bengal Goverment's Rajya Natak award, Kalidas Samman, Bhuwalka Puraskar, Hafiz Ali Khan award along with numerous other honours and prizes.
Jog had a long association with All India Radio's Kolkata centre as music composer and producer besides being member of the AIR's audition board. PTI
