PM condoles death

NEW DELHI, JAN. 31. The Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, today expressed grief over the passing away of legendary singer and actress Suraiyya.

Condoling her death, he said that not only was Suraiyya a good actress but also a talented singer endowed with a mellifluous voice.

The Union Information and Broadcasting Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, said Suraiyya was one of the most popular singing superstars of the 1940s and her famous voice and songs would remain popular for all times to come.

Her contribution to the development of Indian cinema would be remembered for long, he said. — PTI
