KOTTAYAM, JAN. 31. Ernakulam district took the overall championship with 455 points on the last day of the Seventh State Higher Secondary Schools Festival being held here. Kottayam came second with 426 points and Thrissur was the third position with 417 points. The coveted kalathilakom Trophy was lifted by Sarika K. Panicker of GHSS, Paravur, Ernakulam, who bagged 47 points from her performances in Kathakali, Kathaprasangom, Mohiniyattom, Keralanatanam and Ottanthullal and Mono Act. Sagar Bhooshan of MMM HSS, Malappuram is the Kalaprathibha. He earned 30 points from Kathakali, Mono Act, Folk dance, Bharathanatyam, and Kuchupudi. If it was the unexpected summer rains which played the spoilsport at the festival on Friday, it was the day of SFI/DYFI activists to play their role on Saturday. The absence of the Education Minister, Nalakath Soopy, from the venue had been pointed out by many as a sign of lack of interest in the whole affair, and the organisers had been trying to bring the Minister to the valedictory function. It appears that a misinformation on the issue had brought the left organisation to the venue. Activists numbering a few scores barged into the main stage and pushed themselves to the stage forcing the police to take action. What followed was chaos with audience and organisers running for cover.
