Microsoft to help manage crowd at Ardh-Kumbh

DEHRA DUN, FEB. 2. The Uttaranchal Government has roped in Microsoft Corp for crowd management at the time of Ardh-Kumbh mela at Hardwar in April-May this year to prevent any untoward incident during the event. ``The company has already submitted its crowd management schemes to us and the State Government is working on those lines,'' the Chief Minister, N.D. Tiwari, said while inaugurating the first IT education centre, set up by the U.S.-based Microsoft Corp in a record six months' time.

He also invited the Microsoft chief, Bill Gates, to Uttaranchal.

He said the computer could play a major role in crowd as well as traffic management. Crowd management is an important aspect of major events such as Kumbh and Ardh-Kumbh melas.

The Memorandum of Understanding for the project was signed between the State Government and Microsoft in August last year. The Chief Minister paid homage to more than 240 people killed at Mina, Saudi Arabia, in a stampede on Sunday. He asked the people not to get panicky for any reason at the time of Ardh-Kumbh as this could result in unforeseen consequences. He also announced that the first Digital Education Centre in the State would be dedicated on February 9. — UNI
