Encroachments removed

MADURAI, FEB.4. A day after the Mayor, C. Ramachandran, instructed the officials to conduct encroachment removal drive, the Corporation officials today removed 24 huts put up on an encroached land along the Vaigai at Mathichiyam here.

Corporation sources said a private individual occupied a piece of land measuring 7.5 cents and rented it out to people for setting up huts. The officials, escorted by a posse of policemen, removed the thatched huts. The officials have planned to fence the land.
