BIJAPUR, FEB. 12. Seven persons were killed and 30 injured in a collision involving a tractor and a truck on the Krishna bridge near the Alamatti Dam on Wednesday night. They were returning to Siddanatha village in Basavanabagewadi taluk after attending a funeral at Hallur in Bagalkot taluk. Basavanabagewadi police gave the names of the dead as Sharanabasappa Kupkaddi (70), Nagamma Shivaputrappa Kupkaddi (50), Neelavva Shrishaila Kupkaddi (40), Shantabai Biradar (45), Shivabai Kariappa Beerkabbi (65), Lingappa Kolmali, and Muthappa Kolmali (18), all from Siddanatha. Three persons died on the spot and two on the way to hospital. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Basavanabagewadi), P.K. Mulasavalagi, told The Hindu that the body of Muttappa Kolmali was recovered from the river this morning. Seventeen of those injured were admitted to the Bijapur District Hospital and the rest to the Bagalkot Hospital.
