THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 12. The decision to give up the Silent Valley project in the name of the lion-tailed macaque and protection of environment has resulted in great loss to the State, the Power Minister, K. Muraleedharan, has said. Replying to a reception accorded by the Global Kerala Foundation here today, the new Power Minister said the public would not blame the macaque for power failure. They would only blame the Minister and the elected representatives. Relinquishing projects on various grounds would affect the development of the State, he said. Excess politicisation was the main reason for the failure of the Global Investor Meet. Development initiatives can be taken up only with the cooperation of trade unions, Mr. Muraleedharan said. The foundation working chairman, G. Rajmohan, presided over the function. The secretaries, P.V. Gangadharan and Suresh Narayanan, offered felicitations. Baby Mathew welcomed and C. Sasidharan Pillai, proposed the vote of thanks.
