THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, FEB. 12. The Mattancherry bridge toll issue has been solved. This was announced here today by the Local Administration Minister, Cherkalam Abdulla, after the Cabinet Sub- committee set up to settle it thrashed out the matter with the representatives of those agitating against the toll collection and of Gammon India which constructed the bridge on Build, Operate and Transfer basis. The period of toll collection which was 13 years and nine months as per the agreement is being increased to 19 years and nine months. The Minister said that the demand for revising the subsidy to be paid to the company every year because of the reduction in toll rates on the basis of the wholesale price index of the previous year had also been settled. The decision was to pay subsidy to the company. As per the agreement, it had been decided not to revise the toll or user fee in proportion to the changes in the wholesale price index. The present rates would be permanent in nature, he added. The revised toll rates are as follows :
