Thanjavur Feb. 13. A total of 3123 development works completed at a cost of Rs.16.53 crores for Thanjavur district have been inaugurated by the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, at the Secretariat in Chennai on Wednesday, according to a release issued here on Thursday. The works include three bridges on Thirupurambiyam road, Thanjavur-Budalur road and Mannargudi-Pattukottai road completed by the Highways department at a cost of Rs.1.56 crores, Adi Dravida students hostel constructed by the department of Adi Dravida Welfare at Keelperumagalur at a cost of Rs.31.50 lakhs, Primary Agriculture Cooperative Bank buildings at 14 villages constructed by the Cooperative department at a cost of Rs.68 lakhs, one taluk information centre and four joint information centres of the Education department, three classroom additional school buildings at 24 villages, two additional classroom buildings in 22 villages, toilet facilities in 64 villages, office building of the Thirukarukavur Mullaivananathaswamy Temple and other works of the TWAD Board, rural development department etc. She also laid foundation stones for 537 works to be taken up at a cost of Rs.32.55 crores in the district. Our Tiruchi Reporter reports: A total of 456 works, executed at a total of Rs.nine crores in Pudukottai district, were inaugurated at the Secretariat by Ms. Jayalalithaa. She also laid the foundation stone for 986 other works, to be launched at an estimate of Rs.23 crores. A chunk of Rs.1.07 crores went to the construction of classrooms under various programmes. Two classroom buildings were constructed for 10 schools and three classroom buildings for six schools, while the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development had sanctioned Rs.41.40 lakhs for the construction of five school buildings. This apart, three school buildings were constructed with Rs. nine lakhs sanctioned from the MLA Local Area Development Funds. The Chief Minister declared open the new police station, constructed at a cost of Rs.12 lakhs at Udayalipatti. She also declared open the running track, football and hockey ground set up on an outlay of Rs. 20 lakhs, sanctioned by the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority. She launched drinking water supply works, executed by the TWAD Board, to cater to the needs of 55 villages on an outlay of Rs.2.81 crores. She inaugurated 67 projects executed by the Agriculture and Forest departments at a cost of Rs. 18.55 lakhs for augmenting irrigational sources and setting up rain-water harvesting structures. Under a special scheme to provide drought relief, 169 works would be undertaken at a cost of Rs. 1.50 crores in the district. In a release issued in Pudukottai on Thursday, the Collector, Hiteshkumar Makwana, said Rs.1.96 crores would be spent for construction of seven hostels to benefit students belonging to the Adi Dravida community. Likewise, Rs.96.50 lakhs would be spent by the Most Backward and Minorities Welfare department for construction of three hostels.
