Efforts to trace fishermen

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, FEB. 13. The State Government is making all-out efforts to trace four fishermen of Managudi in Kanyakumari district, who have been missing since December 21 last.

Replying to a call attention motion moved by S. Austin (AIADMK) in the Assembly today, the Fisheries Minister, M. Radhakrishnan, said they could not be traced despite attempts by the Navy along with Coast Guard. The Indian missions in Sri Lankan and the Maldives were also contacted through the Foreign Ministry. But no information was received.

When Mr. Austin appealed to the Government to sanction relief to the families of the missing fishermen, the Minister said steps were being taken to get Rs. 30,000 from the National Fishermen Cooperatives Federation for each of the families. But only three fishermen were eligible for the grant, as the assistance was extended only to the federation members.
