Defeat TDP, NDA, says AISF leader

By Our Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM, FEB. 15. The All India Students' Federation (AISF) has given a call to defeat the Telugu Desam Party in the State and the BJP-led NDA at the Centre in the forthcoming elections.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, AISF State general secretary, D. Rajareddy, who was here in connection with the 31st district AISF conference last weekend, said that both the State and Central Governments never honoured their pre-poll promises. The Central Government which had promised one crore jobs every year, now claimed that it had given 85 lakh jobs which was a blatant lie, he remarked. "To whom did they give these jobs? If they did, why are so many unemployed youth going abroad to seek employment? Why is the unemployment problem increasing?,'' he asked.

He said the `feel-good factor' did not apply to the unemployed and the students but only to those in power. Even the employed were being sent home in the name of the voluntary retirement scheme and there were no new employment opportunities created, he alleged. On the educational front, Mr. Rajareddy said that UGC funds were not being released for development of universities but diverted to courses like astrology, priesthood and rituals.
