HYDERABAD, FEB. 15. In a rare case, a Government employee was punished for offering a bribe to his superior. A former Deputy Executive Engineer of the Panchayat Raj Department (Quality control sub-division) of Khammam, N. Sudhakar Reddy, was sentenced to undergo two years' rigorous imprisonment and pay Rs. 1,000 fine as he was found guilty of offering Rs. 15,000 bribe on June 8, 1999, to the then District Collector, A. Giridhar, according to a press release. Mr. Reddy was charged with offering the bribe to Mr. Giridhar at the latter's camp office seeking a better posting in a regular sub-division. Mr. Giridhar immediately called the Superintendent of Police. The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials, who rushed to the camp office, found Rs. 15,000 in the possession of Mr. Reddy. A case under Section 12 of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the DEE. Subsequently, the Principal Special Judge for ACB Cases, Hyderabad, convicted him.
