HYDERABAD, FEB. 15. Unidentified persons took away gold ornaments and silver articles worth Rs. 5.20 lakhs from Bhavani Jewellery Shop on Ek Minar road in Nampally after entering inside by digging a hole in the rear-side wall of the shop late on Saturday night. According to a complaint lodged by the shop owner, Raju Soni of Ghansi Bazar, he noticed that 70 tolas of jewellery and 25 kilos of silver articles, kept in the showcases, were stolen by the thieves when he opened the shop on Sunday afternoon. Further examination revealed that the culprits entered the shop through a hole dug at the base of a wall behind the shop. The shop owner was constructing a building in the 400 square yards open space behind the shop. Mounds of mud piled up after digging the ground for laying foundation. Work was suspended for the last three or four days due to some reasons. "It appears that the thieves dug a hole in the wall hiding themselves behind the heaps of mud," the Habeebnagar Inspector, Laxmi Nayak, said. The police suspected that the thieves were not professionals as iron safe, consisting of jewellery, was left untouched. The minimum number of offenders could be two, they said. Some fingerprints were collected from the scene.
