Court notice to Punjab Government
By Our Legal Correspondent
NEW DELHI,
FEB. 16.
The Supreme Court today issued notice to the Punjab Government on a petition from the former State Public Service chairman, R.P.S. Sidhu, seeking a direction to the Government to consolidate the trial in two corruption cases against him in the job-for-money scam.
A Bench, comprising Justice Shivaraj V. Patil and Justice D. M. Dharmadhikari, issued the notice after Mr. Sidhu's counsel, S. Muralidhar, alleged that the prosecution had filed separate charge sheets against him in a disproportionate assets case and a trap case though both were the result of the same FIR.
Mr. Sidhu said that since the cases related to the same alleged transaction, separate trials would prejudice him, as there could be different findings by the two courts.
