Medha Patkar held

NEW DELHI, FEB. 16. The Gujarat Government today detained the Narmada Bachao Andolan leader, Medha Patkar, and more than 150 tribals affected by the Sardar Sarovar Project, who were protesting at Kevadia Colony at the Narmada dam site.

About 200 to 250 150 tribals and rural families who were displaced by the dam in Gujarat and who had not received "legal and fair rehabilitation" from 1980-81, went on an indefinite sit-in outside the Sardar Sarovar Punarwasit Agency in Kevadia Colony in Vadodara today, a press note said.

Police clamped prohibitory orders and arrested over 150 people and put them in the Rajpipla Jail.
