Clear sky predicted
The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Monday were 27.2 and 9.4 degrees Celsius respectively, while Palam recorded 27.4 and 9.8 degrees Celsius. Safdarjung recorded a maximum humidity of 95 per cent and a minimum of 37 per cent. At Palam, the maximum and minimum humidity were 97 per cent and 43 per cent respectively.
Woman
gang-raped
The incident occurred late at night when six people forced their way into the house of a shopkeeper and at gunpoint criminally assaulted the woman. The accused fled from the scene after assaulting the woman. She was later taken to All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, from where the doctors called up the police. On the basis of her statement, the police have registered a case of gang rape and criminal trespass at Govindpuri police post and launched a hunt for the suspects.
Held for posing as CBI officers
According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-West Delhi), Sanjay Singh, one Dinesh Chopra of Rohini lodged a complaint alleging that four men claiming to be CBI officials abducted him and released him on payment of Rs. 5,000. He said the culprits had come to his shop in a Maruti Van this Saturday evening. The four claimed that they were CBI officials and three of them identified themselves as Lok Nath Choudhary, Tula Ram Shukla and Budh Prakash Gautam. They accused him of having sold a blue film VCD to a decoy customer sent by them. Dinesh denied having sold any such VCD, but the culprits took the snaps of his shop and forced him to sit in their vehicle. He was taken near Rajiv Gandhi Hospital where the culprits demanded Rs. 20,000 to free him and threatened to take legal action against him if he did not pay. On negotiation, they finally asked Dinesh to pay Rs. 5,000. Dinesh then called up his wife, Vandana, and through her paid the money, following which the four vanished from the scene.
Sales tax man held
According to the police, Vijay Kumar, who was earlier arrested in a bribe case on June 21, 2000, for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs. 5,000 from a shopkeeper, was found to possess assets worth Rs. 15.3 lakhs against his income of Rs. 10.1 lakhs from the known sources.
Robbers arrested
The Crime Branch arrested four persons allegedly involved in robberies in moving buses from Kabristan Mukarba Chowk. In another operation, the Crime Branch arrested four others - Dev Karan, Sanjeev, Ramesh and Rajan, while one Tayab Ali was also arrested for his alleged involvement in robbery cases. Three men, Mukesh, Sher Singh and Asif, have been arrested by the Anti-Auto Theft Squad of the South Delhi police.
