CHENNAI, FEB. 19. A tele-ophthalmology facility connecting Railway Hospital, Perambur and Sankara Nethralaya was inaugurated by K.Suresh, Director General, Railway Health Services, here today. With the introduction of the facility, railway employees with eye defects, sitting at the Perambur hospital, can interact with ophthalmologists at Sankara Nethralaya. S.S.Badrinath and Rajiv Raman of Sankara Nethralaya, who saw the live images of a patient's eyes beamed to their hospital from Perambur, discussed a couple of cases. Doctors watching the images from Golden Rock Railway hospital, Tiruchi, also joined in the discussion. With the laying of substantial fibre optic network, the Railways could now provide expert medical care to its employees in remote areas through telemedicine, said the Southern Railway General Manager, V. Anand. G.C.Raju, Chief Medical Director and N.Padmanabhan, Medical Director, Railway hospital, participated in the programme.
