Clear skies

CHENNAI, FEB. 19. The skies will be mainly clear on Friday and the minimum temperature will be around 20 Degrees Celsius.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 31.6 Degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 19.6 Degrees Celsius. The humidity was 59 per cent. Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 32 Degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 20 Degrees Celsius. The humidity was 63 per cent.

Power cut

Power supply will be suspended between 10 a.m and 4 p.m. on February 21 in Pudupet, Korattur, Muthialpet, Vepery, Kilpauk, West Mambalam, Kalmandapam, Purasawakkam, Tondiarpet, MMDA Colony, Arumbakkam, Vadapalani, Porur, Ayyappanthangal, West Tambaram, Ramapuram, Velachery and Alandur areas due to maintenance work.

Assistance

Ten artificial limbs and 50 white canes were distributed to physically handicapped and visually impaired students on Thursday as part of the celebrations to mark the 50th year of the Peetarohana of Sri Jayendra Saraswati of Kanchi Mutt. Those who participated in the function organised by the Stenographers' Guild included Ashok Jailkhani, Director of Chennai Doordarshan Kendra, S.V. Venkatakrishnan, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order).

Pollution watch

The Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter at a residential area in Adyar for 24 hours from 6 a.m. on February 18 stood at 59 micrograms per cubic metre (mcg/cm), well within the permissible limit of 100 mcg/cm. The Total Suspended Particulate Matter at the same place was 90 mcg/cm against the permissible limit of mcg/cm, according to the ambient air quality monitoring programme of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board.

Dental camp

A free dental camp was conducted by V.V.Dental hospital, Anna Nagar, for the inmates of Bezelel Rehab Centre for ragpickers on Wednesday. About 50 children were screened. The oral hygiene was found to be good, while some children required extractions, fillings and other dental care. The hospital arranged free treatment for them, a release said.

Course

A certificate course on computer awareness programme in Windows and MS Office (Word, excel, power point) will be conducted at Periyar Science and Technology Centre, Gandhi Mandapam Road. The course duration is 30 hours and classes will be conducted between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Further details can be had over telephone (24410025 and 24915250).

Seminar

A seminar on `Preparing youth towards future' was organised by the Jaya College of Arts and Science, Tirunindravur, on February 5. The students were advised to hone their skills by constant practice and told about the importance of time management in a competitive world. The programme was inaugurated by A. Kanagaraj, chairman, Jaya Educational Trust.

Blood donated

The Rotaract Club of Sree Sastha Institute of Engineering and Technology, Chembarambakkam, organised a blood donation camp on February 11. About 290 students donated blood.
