Air Deccan to acquire Airbus A-320

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, FEB. 25. Air Deccan, the country's firs low-cost domestic carrier, has chosen two new Airbus A-320 aircraft to expand services to major cities from its base in Bangalore. The carrier has chosen to acquire two new A-320s and take options for two more. In addition, it will lease further five A-320s from Singapore Aircraft Lasing Enterprise (SALE).

According to Airbus Industrie, deliveries of the leased aircraft will begin in July this year while the new ones will start joining the fleet of Air Deccan from September 2005 onwards.

Captain G. R. Gopinath, Managing Director of Air Deccan, said the airline narrowed down on A-320 aircraft as it was the most economical for the job as per the evaluation carried out. Air Deccan now flies seven ATR 42 turboprops on services from Bangalore to cities in Southern region. It intends to use the A-320 to expand its operations throughout the country.
