Rs. 5.88 cr. sanctioned for infrastructure development

PERAMBALUR, FEB. 28 . A sum of Rs.5.88 crores has been sanctioned for infrastructure development in village panchayats, panchayat unions and the district panchayat in the district during this year, the Assistant Director (Panchayats), S. Thangaraj, has said.

While the State Finance Commission (SFC) has released Rs. 4.64 crores, the Eleventh Finance Commission has sanctioned Rs.1.24 crores, he said.

The SFC sanctioned Rs.2.29 crores to 322 village panchayats, Rs.1.95 crores to 10 panchayat unions and Rs. 39.10 lakhs to the district panchayat. The Eleventh Finance Commission released Rs.68.28 lakhs to village panchayats and Rs.55.87 lakhs to panchayat unions. This apart, the District Rural Development Agency sanctioned Rs.18.57 lakhs for setting up rainwater harvesting structures in the district.

He said the administration selected Annamangalam village panchayat and Veppanthattai panchayat union for a special incentive to be sanctioned by the Centre for best maintenance.
