Joint action planned against criminals

PATNA, MARCH 2 . The Bihar government, in co-operation with its Uttar Pradesh counterpart, has prepared a joint action programme to check activities of the inter-state criminal gangs during the coming Lok Sabha elections.

Sources at the state police headquarters here today said that both the states have prepared a list of criminals and their gangs operating in their respective areas and would soon exchange it for initiating action as their activities had increased in the recent past.

The sources said State Director General of Police, W.H. Khan, was in direct contact with his U.P. counterpart and a team led by him was likely to visit Uttar Pradesh to discuss the strategies with higher authorities to control crime during the elections.

According to the sources, the criminal gangs active in parts of North Bihar and Central Bihar operated in close proximity with their links in UP.

The sources informed that the police headquarters had launched a special ten-day operation crime control programme, which would continue till March 6 and of the total 100 criminals carrying rewards on their heads 20 had been booked while the remaining 80 were evading arrest. -- UNI
