Scholarships for scribes

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, MARCH 2. The Prem Bhatia Memorial Trust is offering two scholarships for Indian journalists below the age of 40 for research in media-related subjects. Each of the two scholarships, which are offered every year, are for Rs 75,000 for course of the year.

Sponsored by the Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, the scholarships are paid out in four instalments. While the first instalment is given on selection, the remaining three are made available after the work in progress has been approved by a committee. In addition, at least two articles on the Research Topic are published in journals or newspapers.

Stating that this time there will also be a one-time annual award of Rs 25,000 for the best young journalist under the age of 25 years who has shown the most promise in reporting on environmental and social affairs, the Trust said in order to apply, the applicants should send an up-to-date bio-data, a synopsis of the proposed subject of research, three clippings of recently published work and a reference from the candidate's Editor, employer or, in the case of self-employed candidates, other suitable persons.

Since the scholarships are awarded along with the Prem Bhatia Award for Excellence in Political Reporting and Analysis on August 11 each year, the Trust said all applications and supporting documents should reach it by May 30 at C-484, Defence Colony, New Delhi. More details on the subject are available at www.prembhatiatrust.com.
