NEW DELHI, MARCH 2. The Delhi police today recovered the handcuff and burnt remains of police uniform used by Sandeep Thakur, who impersonated as a cop to facilitate the escape of Sher Singh Rana, the alleged killer of bandit-turned politician Phoolan Devi. The remains of the uniform, including a jacket, a jersey and shoes were recovered by the special cell of Delhi Police from the same village in Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh from where Thakur was arrested three days back, the police sources said. Thakur was taken to the village to effect the recovery, which will be crucial to establish his role in the escape, the sources said. The handcuff was recovered from Rana's house in Roorkee, they said. Rana escaped from Tihar jail on February 17. Thakur impersonated as Delhi Police constable Aravind Kumar to manage the escape of Rana from Tihar jail. Rana's brother Vikram has also been arrested on charges of masterminding the escape.
