Inspector to undergo lie-detector test

By Devesh K. Pandey

NEW DELHI, MARCH 2. The Delhi police inspector who was arrested last month by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on charges of having links with the multi-crore fake stamp paper scamster, Abdul Karim Telgi, is likely to be put through a lie-detector test on Wednesday.

It is learnt that Inspector Puran Singh's lie-detector test is being conducted to verify the statements given by him on his role in the whole episode. The officials would also try to establish whether his claim that he used to brief his supervisory officer about all his activities pertaining to the investigations into the Defence Colony case is true.

Investigations so far have revealed that while Puran Singh and his sub-ordinate, Gaurav Aggarwal, had met Telgi several times, they had also taken two of the accused in the Defence Colony case, including one Jai Kishan, to various places by flight in that connection. The CBI has apparently come across some flight Inspector to untickets lending credence to this suspicion. Also, the officials are trying to find out whether Telgi had accompanied them in any of these flights.

Earlier, the CBI had found that both Puran Singh and Aggarwal had made arrests in the Defence Colony case on the bases of fake statements, allegedly at Telgi's instance. The duo allegedly kept Telgi out of the purview of investigations into that case, against monetary gratification.

After having questioned the Assistant Commissioner of Police, A.S. Tomar, who has been summoned by the CBI twice so far on the basis of Puran Singh's revelations, the officials are verifying his statements as well.

On Monday, senior CBI officials had said they would also investigate the suspected involvement of other police personnel in the stamp paper scam.
