Retrograde step

Sir, — The editorial, `A flawed exercise' (March 10), on the signing of the interim Constitution in Iraq, brought out the pitfalls ahead. A significant aspect not highlighted is that all laws will have an Islamic basis. This is a retrograde step as far as women are concerned, because under Saddam Hussein women enjoyed greater liberties vis-à-vis dress code, higher education and employment.
