11 killed in van-bus collision near Belgaum

BELGAUM, MARCH 15. Eleven persons died on the spot when the Tempo Trax van in which they were travelling and a private luxury bus collided near Gulab Shah dargah near Hattargi in Yamkanmardi Police Station limits, 35 km. from here, on National Highway 4 on Monday morning.

The crew and the passengers of the bus escaped unhurt. The victims have been identified as Vasant Ameen, his wife, Radhika Ameen, their children, Vrushab and Vrupesh; Soumya Ameen, Vasanti, Mohini, Vasu Sanil, another child, Asid, Dinesh Huvappa Ameen and Sanjay. Except Sanjay, the others were close relatives who were from Mulky in Mangalore.

The bus driver, Shivappa Jakati, has been arrested. It is suspected that the accident occurred when the bus was trying to overtake another vehicle.
