Ananthamurthy awaiting Congress's response to his offer
By Our Staff Reporter
BANGALOE,
MARCH 15.
The Jnanpith Award winner, U.R. Ananthamurthy, who recently volunteered to contest in the Lok Sabha elections from Bangalore South against the Bharatiya Janata Party if the Janata Dal (S) and the Congress support his candidature, has said that he is awaiting the response from the Congress as its "opinion is very valid as it is a national party".
Responding to the reported response of the former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, to his offer, Dr. Murthy told The Hindu here today that his desire to contest for the elections was a "principled and ideological" one. He was considering the response of the Janata Dal (S). Thanking Mr. Deve Gowda for his "graceful response", Dr. Ananthamurthy said that he would talk to him as the dialogue was not closed.
Clarifying his ideological position, he said that he would always stand for a nation with diversities and not with the Savarkar kind of Hindutva nationalism.
His prime ideological objective in opting to contest the elections was to fight the BJP, he added.
