NEW DELHI, MARCH 19. The Apollo Hospitals Group yesterday announced it was introducing an entirely new concept in the healthcare segment by setting up the boutique birthing centres in the country and abroad. To be called "The Cradle", these-state-of-the art specialised maternity care centres will cater to the needs of expectant mothers and the newborns. Addressing a press conference, both Dr. Prathap C. Reddy, Chairman of the Apollo Group, and Rattan Jalan, CEO of Apollo Health and Lifestyle Limited (AHLL), said these centres would cater to niche segments. The Cradle would bring to Indian mothers the best birthing facilities all under one roof in line with global trends with hitherto did not exist in the country. "It is targeted at parents who only want the best and don't want any compromises with regard to a significant milestone in their lives. The result of an extensive study of top-notch birthing facilities in western countries, the Cradle would blend personalised care with highly specialised medical technology and allow the family to participate and celebrate such an occasion in a home-like environment'', they said. Claiming that they were making yet another initiative, Dr. Reddy said that first of these centres would be set up in the national capital. For this, AHLL has signed a joint venture with Sunrise Medicare Limited for the facility to be created in South Delhi. Similar centres are proposed for Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Chandigarh through joint ventures. Such centres with LDR (Labour, Delivery and Recovery) beds and 4-D ultrasound machines will be set up even abroad through joint ventures. While feeling delighted to be part of what he called a revolution in maternity care in India, Naresh Talwar, Chairman of Sunrise Medicare Limited, said the specialised Obstetrics and Neonatology facility being created by them would set and maintain international standards and practices in maternity care in a premium environment.
