PATHANAMTHITTA, MARCH 22 . Honey therapy, an age-old healing technique in traditional ophthalmology, is fast gaining ground in the country and the world over, according to B.G. Gokulan, founder of the Netra Foundation that runs the Sudarshana Netra Centre in Thiruvalla and Ernakulam. Talking to The Hindu , Dr. Gokulan said honey therapy was a great success in curing various occupational eye ailments like progressive myopia, ciliary muscular spasm, dry eyes, ocular headache and to some extent glaucoma. "Keyboards and computers have more or less become a part of human life in the modern day global village. A software engineer needs to work on the computer or laptop for 8 to 16 hours a day depending on his occupational background and requirements. The human body responds in an indifferent manner to a special task being carried out constantly and continuously for a certain period of time. This response may emerge in many ways," says Dr. Gokulan.
`Vision Pro'
Dr. Gokulan has launched a therapeutic programme `Vision Pro' aimed at revitalising the eyes and other organs with honey therapy, at his Netra Centre. According to him, honey therapy increases blood circulation in the eyes and tones up the ocular muscles. Honey has an excellent healing property and is effectively used for treatment of abrasions and ulcers in the cornea, he adds. Dr. Gokulan says that honey has the quality of thinning away excess fat, controlling thrust, besides having an anti-toxic effect.
