Dance festival from March 25

Thiruvananthapuram March 22. A six-day dance festival, `Swarn Nritya Pratibha', organised jointly by the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi and the Kerala Sangeet Nataka Akademi, featuring the different dance forms of the country would be held in the city at the Tagore Theatre and the Vailoppilli Samskrithi Bhavan in the city from March 25 to 30.

Announcing this at a press conference here today, the Chairman of the Kerala Sangeet Nataka Akademi, Kavalam Narayana Panicker, said the dance festival was being organised in different parts of the country.

The opening day of the festival would feature the screening of a film on the activities of the Sangeet Natak Akademi followed by a Mohiniyattam recital by Vindhuja Menon. Artistes of the Progressive Artiste Laboratory, Imphal, would perform Manipuri and Pung Cholom.

Kirthi Ramgopal (Bharathanatyam), Eva Pavithran (Mohiniyattam), Vandana Kaul (Kathak) and Geetha Madhuri (Kuchipudi) performances will be on March 26. On March 27, Natun Sri Sri Bhogpur Sattra, Pallavi Khaund and Anjali Borbora would perform `Jorhat Sattriya' while P. B. Pallavi and Saraswathi Purnima would present a Kuchipudi recital. Nangiarkoothu by Margi Usha, Bharathanatyam by Aswathi Nair and Srikant, and Odissi by Yudishtir Nayak and Lipsa Dash would also be featured on the same day.

A Mohiniyattam performance by the Kerala Kalamandalam troupe would be the highlight of the programme on March 28. This would be followed by the performances of Swetaleena Swain and Smaranika Jena (Odissi), Divya Ramachandran (Bharathanatyam) and a Mayurbhanj Chhau performance by artistes of the Mayur Art Centre, Bhubaneswar.

Kathak recital by Praveen Gangani and Gauri Diwakar, Kuchipudi performance by Chinta Ravi Balakrishna and Mohiniyattam by Sangeetha Gopi and Shalini would be the programmes to be held on March 29.

A special Kathakali evening would bring the curtains down for the National Dance festival on March 30 with the staging of Nalacharitam first day and Dakshayaagam kathakali at the Vailoppilli Samskrithi Bhavan.

The presentation of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi awards and fellowships for 2003 would be presented by the secretary of the Central Sangeet Natak Akademi, Jayanth Kastwar at a function to be held at the Tagore theatre on March 24. Film director, Adoor Gopalakrishnan would inaugurate the meeting. The Swathi Tirunal memorial lecture would be delivered by actor Nedumudi Venu on the occasion.

The general convenor of the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Rajan Thazhakkara and the executive committee member of the Akademi, Aryanad Raju also attended the press conference.
