By Our Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM, MARCH 22. The Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswati, was weighed against silver at the Sankara Mutt here today as part of the on-going `Peetarohana golden jubilee celebrations.' A devotee from Hyderabad donated 55-60 kg of silver. The junior Sankaracharya, Sri Vijayendra Saraswati, put the silver bars on the `Thulabaram.'

In the morning, Sri Jayendra Saraswati worshipped at the Kamakshi temple and adorned the `Sri Chakram' in the sanctum sanctorum with a golden `kavacham' studded with `Navaratna' stones.

Special homams and 51 `Thambathi' poojas were performed in the Mutt. He became Acharya this day 50 years ago.

Devotees from Mumbai presented a five-foot tall golden chariot, worth Rs. 20 lakhs, for the pooja deity, Chandramouleeswarar, in the Mutt. The pooja idols were placed in the new chariot and the Acharya performed poojas.

A large number of devotees thronged the Mutt, where special homams and poojas were performed for the prosperity of the people.
