Gogoi visits Karbi Anglong

By Sushanta Talukdar

GUWAHATI, MARCH 25. The Assam Chief Minister, Tarun Gogoi, today visited the violence-hit Karbi Anglong district and met the family members of the Karbi villagers gunned down by suspected militants of the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA).

The toll in the two incidents of militant attack on Karbi villagers that occurred on Tuesday night and Wednesday, had gone up to 28, said the Inspector-General of Police (Special Branch) Khagen Sharma.

The Chief Minister assured the villagers that the State Government would take measures for protection of their lives and property. He also reviewed the situation with the police and district officials and asked them to step up security.

The State president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indramoni Bora, said today that the party would send a delegation to the affected villages to take stock of the situation. The party expressed concern over the killings and alleged that the law-and-order situation in the State had deteriorated under Congress rule.
