IAS officer arrested in Orissa

BHUBANESWAR, MARCH 25. A senior IAS officer and former Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Orissa State Beverages Corporation, Prafulla Chandra Mishra, has been arrested by the State Vigilance Department for his alleged involvement in two corruption cases.

Mr. Mishra, who topped the IAS in the early '80s, was arrested on Wednesday night, hours after the Orissa High Court refused to grant him anticipatory bail in the two cases in question. The High Court, however, had granted him anticipatory bail in the third corruption case registered against him by the State Vigilance.

He was produced before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate, B.C. Rout, this afternoon. The court remanded Mr. Mishra to judicial custody till April 7.
