Too late for alliance, says Mulayam
By K. Balchand
PATNA,
MARCH 29.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Samajwadi Party chief, Mulayam Singh Yadav, said here today that it was too late to have any kind of alliance with the Congress in Uttar Pradesh for the Lok Sabha elections.
Reacting to reporters' queries on his way to Buxar, Mr. Yadav accused the senior Congress leader, Arjun Singh, of scuttling efforts in that direction.
He claimed that he had sent the party general secretary, Amar Singh, to meet the Congress chief, Sonia Gandhi, but in the meantime Mr. Arjun Singh had threatened to withdraw Congress support to his Government.
He declined to comment on the accusations against him by the Rashtriya Janata Dal chief, Laloo Prasad Yadav, that his motive was to help the Bharatiya Janata Party by fielding candidates in Bihar.
