Former Health Director challenges Government order

KOCHI, MARCH 31. The former Director of Health Services, V.K. Rajan, today filed a writ petition before the Kerala High Court challenging the Government order posting him as the Project Director, Kerala State Institute of Virology and Infectious Disease, Alappuzha.

In his petition, Dr. Rajan said that the order was arbitrary and illegal. The order said that he was being transferred as the project director on the recommendation of the Vigilance Department which had been inquiring into the allegations levelled in connection with the purchase and freezing of supply of Abhayarab anti-rabies vaccines.

The petitioner who cited the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, as respondent in the case also alleged that the Chief Minister was instrumental in transferring him to the Virology Institute.

ISRO espionage

A Bench comprising Justice Cyriac Joseph and Justice K. Padmanabhan Nair today directed the State Government to file a counter-affidavit in response to a writ appeal filed against the dismissal of a writ petition seeking a directive to the State Government to conduct a fresh probe into the ISRO espionage case.

The appeal was filed by a former Intelligence Officer, Viswambharan.

Case against SP stayed

Justice G. Sasidharan has stayed the proceedings pending before the Judicial First Class Magistrate court, Kannur against Manoj Abraham, Superintendent of Police, Kannur.

The proceedings were initiated on a private complaint by an LDF leader, A.P. Abdullakutty. The LDF leader had filed the case complaining about police brutality.

Marklist case

Justice R. Basanth commuted three years rigorous imprisonment awarded by the Thiruvananthapuram Additional sessions Court to two accused in the case relating to forgery of pre-degree marklist for admission to the professional courses.

Provision upheld

Justice K. Balakrishan Nair today upheld the new condition laid down by the Government as part of the new `Abkari' policy. The condition stipulated that the licence of a toddy shop would not be renewed if a criminal case under the `Abkari' laws had been pending against the licensees.

Petition against

BJP State chief

A writ petition seeking to declare that P.S. Sreedharan Pillai, State BJP president, was ineligible to function as member of the panel constituted by the BSNL to conduct its cases in the High Court and also seeking to direct him to hand back all files pertaining to the BSNL forthwith has been referred to a Division Bench of the Kerala High Court. The petition was filed by Appukuttakurup, BJP worker from Kollam.
