BJP functionaries quit in Manipur

IMPHAL

The Manipur unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been plunged into a crisis after its vice president N. Tombi, and one of the general secretaries, Sarath Singh, resigned from the party in view of the ban on campaigning imposed by the proscribed militant outfit, the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL).

Tombi's resignation came four days after the outfit made a bid on his life on March 30. The resignation of the two senior state BJP functionaries came even as the party's in-charge of northeastern states, V. Satish, made a fresh appeal to the militant outfit to allow peaceful holding of the Lok Sabha polls.

The outfit had renewed its threat on State BJP president and sitting MP from inner Manipur constituency, Thounajam Chaoba, demanding his ouster from the party.
