High turnout in border areas of Jammu
By Our Staff Reporter
SUCHETGARH/PALLANWALA,
APRIL 20. People in border areas and the tribal pockets of Jammu came out in strength to exercise their franchise during the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections today.
The voter turnout in the Jammu Lok Sabha constituency was 45 per cent, courtesy the prevailing India-Pakistan ceasefire. Long queues were seen in the polling stations near the International Border and the Line of Control. Enthusiasm was high, particularly among the first-time voters.
In the Nai Batsi area of Suchetgarh, just 200 meters from the border, people stood in queues for more than an hour to cast their vote.
For the first time in many years, a polling station was set up at the Panchayat Ghar at Suchetgarh, about 100 metres from the border.
