Congress for exit poll results after final phase

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, APRIL 20. Even as several television networks came out with exit polls at the end of the first phase of polling today, the Congress reiterated its stand that exit polls' results should not be made public till the last phase of polling. The party, which has urged the Election Commission to take an early decision on the issue, said making public the results of exit polls at the end of each phase would influence the subsequent phases.

The Congress spokesperson, Abhishek Singhvi, said that in case the exit polls results did not influence the subsequent phases ``then why not declare the actual results instead.'' Since this does not happen this way, the declaration of results are withheld till voting for the last phase is over.
