Coach satisfied with India's performance

`I am satisfied with performance'

NEW DELHI: "Overall satisfied with the performance,'' was how coach Rajinder Singh described India's performance on the recent tour to Australia where it took part in two four-nation tournaments. In the first tournament in Canberra, the team finished second and in the second leg in Sydney, the team finished last.

The Indian hockey team did not fare well in the second tournament that was expected to provide the team management a platform to judge its strength in the preparation for the Athens Olympics. The 0-3 loss to Malaysia at Sydney was considered the lowest point of the tour but Rajinder dismissed it as one off-day. "Barring that match against Malaysia, I thought the team played well and I have little complaints in any department. The team lacked experience. You can see it was a young team and injury to some players (Prabhjot Singh, Viren Rasquinha and Kanwalpreet Singh) was one of the reasons why we didn't fare as we had expected,'' said the coach. — Our Special Correspondent
