Sheetal, Payal qualify
NEW DELHI,
APRIL 27.
Sheetal Iyer and Payal Jain qualified as silver badge referee and bronze badge umpire respectively from the ITF level-3 officiating school held in Hong Kong from April 22 to 25.
Prior to the present qualification, only Puneet Gupta and Nitin Kannamwar had graduated to be bronze badge chair-umpires and silver badge referees from among the Indian tennis officials.
The school in Hong Kong, meant for officials from Asia-Oceania and Europe, was conducted by Mike Morrissey and Stefan Fransson of the ITF apart from Georgina Clark of WTA and Norm Chryst of the ATP. It was part of the five-year plan to improve officiating in Asia. More level-2 and 3 schools will be held in Asia to increase the number of certified officials in the region.
The next level-3 officiating school will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from October 20 to 23.
