India beats Korea

NEW DELHI, APRIL 27. The Indian boys got off to a comfortable start as the team beat Korea 3-0 in a group-5 match of the ITF Junior Davis Cup Asia-Oceania under-16 tennis tournament in Colombo on Tuesday.

Jeevan Nedunchezhian put India ahead with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Hwi-Jin Hong while Rupesh Roy clinched the issue with a 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Seong-Hyun Im in the second match between the No.1 players of the two teams. In the doubles, Rupesh and Sanam Singh beat Hwi-Jin Hong and Yo-Sup Yoon 6-3, 6-2.

India has been seeded second and drawn in a three-member group for the preliminary phase. It will take on Philippines on the morrow.

The other groups:

Group `I': Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong. Group `II': Japan, Myanmar and Syria. Group `III': Chinese Taipei, Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia. Group `IV': Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Singapore.
